Often Indian TV shows run for long or should we say drag and stretch for long. They lose their essence after a point and do not stick to the plot. The viewers also cringe while watching their favourite shows when the concept is deviated and things start taking different turns. In order to gain strong viewership and numbers, logic is completely defied, and common sense is ruled out. Writers of the show just give into the pressure. When you say fiction and fictitious, both the terms exaggerate to the point beyond a line and entertainment value is devoured.
In an Interesting survey, many fans and viewers have come up with an idea that the writers of the show should be replaced by some fans who can actually take the show better instead of writers who basically lose the plot after the whole. After introducing a brilliant storyline and superb characters in the beginning it’s the writing that falters afterwards and needs to take the blame rather we blame the creative of the show because at the end, they are just following the script. The fans say they can better connect with the characters after a point and they know how tracks should be introduced.
In an Interesting survey, We spoke to some fans of the ongoing shows like Ishqbaaz, Ghulaam, Chandra Nandini, KumKum Bhagya, Sasural Simar Ka, Kasam Tere Pyar Ki, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Naagin and basically all the shows that are ON-AIR and they felt that the writers should be taking suggestions from fans in taking the story forward in a far more proper manner. It is better to take logical suggestions than to make the mockery of the storyline. Some fans even willing to do the job for free in the aid to show support love for their favourite shows and characters whereas the writers are officially paid.
But even Writers have a unique stand to hold on their own. When the brilliant writer ‘Aseem Arora’ who wrote the amazing POW for StarPlus was criticized for giving a bland ending to ‘Paanch’ – one of his biggest commercial and critical success. He had his own reasoning, Once with an Interaction with a fan on social media he explained that the audiences is not generally aware what happens behind the show, the creative meetings that takes place on how the show should be shaped up. So it is easy for anyone to form an opinion on the basis of just viewing a show. Fans suggest that there is no harm in taking a show forward for years because at the end when viewers are emotionally attached to their favourite shows and they may not want to lose them however the illogical tracks involving stereotypes that plagues a TV show ruins the essence. Sometimes there are tracks in TV shows which are not even needed suppose – The curse of the tiger track in &TV ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’ did not make any sense but still the viewers were somehow glued to it. The story was about two aspiring singers and their relationship. but by the time that track ended, the show was itself packed up.
But the writers have their own take as well. They do not have much creative freedom to do away things with the storyline. The pressure to perform on numbers is really huge. Also, in a daily TV show format, you are not much left to bring fresh ideas always. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But usually the writers have to follow a basic line involving the story so that the viewership of the show remains intact especially if you want the show to stick around for long. Gone are the days when TV shows were considered successful. In these times, It’s all about how long can you survive. Otherwise you get tipped off.
The only suggestion needed is to take ideas and suggestions and they can be implemented well into the story, the creative team should give out e-mails for the public and fans where they can send the ideas on what should happen in a show and what not? Even if the ideas do not work well, they still can be considered. After all there is no loss for anyone. Isn’t it?
